Street Design Team is pleased to announce the completion of the Cycling and Walking Strategy for AlUla, commissioned by the Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU) in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and delivered through PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).
This strategic study builds on AlUla’s existing position as a cycling destination for sports and tourism by developing a holistic approach to active mobility that supports everyday cycling and walking for residents, workers, and visitors.
Our work focused on three interconnected levers to foster sustainable and culturally appropriate active travel in this unique and historically sensitive region:
1. Behaviour Change
2. Infrastructure
3. Policy and Legislation
The study also complements and aligns with the broader Mobility 360 strategy led by RATP Dev, which focuses on traffic management, public transit network improvements, and setting ambitious mode share targets. Street Design Team contributed to this effort through a detailed peer review of active mobility components and provided guidance on integrating cycling and walking initiatives as key enablers for realizing the plan’s goals.
By integrating infrastructure, behavior change, and policy, the strategy aims to make cycling and walking the most attractive, viable, and sustainable transport options within AlUla’s urban and tourism framework. We are proud to support the Royal Commission in advancing AlUla’s vision as a model destination where active travel enhances the quality of life, economic vitality, and cultural heritage preservation.
